MARCUS KUSI
Let’s face it, college is awfully expensive. And it’s not just tuition that produces the sticker shock: one of the biggest expenses is textbooks. This often presents a real dilemma for cash-strapped students.
The good news is, wherever there is a problem, there’s a Side Hustle waiting in the wings.
Marcus Kusi was a full-time student at Castleton University in Vermont, working towards a promising degree in computer information systems. Money was tight. Real tight.
When he wasn’t in class, Marcus worked part-time making furniture and providing IT assistance at the university. On top of that, Marcus was a new father and he was the primary breadwinner. That’s when he stumbled upon the notion of reselling. He had read the book: The $100 Startup and was motivated by some of the stories chronicled. So, he took $5 every month for 4 months to cover his startup costs. Marcus started “flipping” college books. He sourced his products from eBay and sold a $20 item for $70. Instead of pocketing his profits, he reinvested in more books and opened an Amazon Seller Account.
Within his first year, he pulled in $20,000 and an additional $50,000 the following year.
Marcus has since graduated and I now working fulltime as an IT business analyst.
Startup Costs: $20
Revenue: $70,000 (Two Years)
